Evans tabbed for inaugural award
The RedFork Main street Economic Restructuring Committee works to gain a stronger understanding of the economic environment in the RedFork Main Street (Southwest Boulevard) corridor and to build relationships with existing businesses, potential new businesses and the City of Tulsa.
New in October, the committee began recognizing businesses in the area. Recognition focuses on locally-owned businesses that are growing and that have made a commitment to creating a positive business environment in Southwest Tulsa as well as a visually attractive business.
Evans Enterprises was chosen as the RedFork Main Street Economic Restructuring Committee’s first “Business of the Quarter.” Katy Davis, RedFork Main Street Executive Director presented the award on October 28th to Evans’ Senior Vice president of the Northwest Region, Rusty Thrash, and his daughter, Lauryn Ratcliffe.
Davis, while presenting the plaque, stated that RedFork Main Street knows that Syndy and Rusty Thrash, their family and the Evans Enterprises employees, work hard to run a vibrant business in the area and that they are continuing to grow.”
Evans Electric was formed in 1954, by Myron Evans and his son Charles Evans. In 1972, the company incorporated in the state of Oklahoma and in 1996, Evans Electric Motor Company changed its name to Evans Enterprises, Inc. Charles Evans now chairs the company’s Board of Directors and third and fourth generation members of the Evans Family run the business. Charles’ two sons-in-law, Rusty Thrash and Steve Campbell, President and CEO, continue the work of the family. Syndy Thrash, Charles’ daughter, is the company’s corporate secretary. Rusty and Syndy’s son, Evan is the service manager. Their daughter, Lauryn Ratcliffe, handles accounts receivables and Derick Ratcliffe, son-in-law, works inside sales.
Evans has 10 plants spread across four states. The business originally derived most of its income from the sales and repair of electric motors and related equipment. As the industry changed, Evans changed to meet the needs of a dynamic market place. Now all of the plants have become leaders in the field of applying, supplying, commissioning and servicing AC Variable Frequency Drives.
According to the company, their progressive management attitude has allowed it to continue to expand into areas not normally serviced by electric motor repair shops.
In 1974 , Evans opened the plant now located at 2002 Southwest Boulevard. The facility houses more than 48 employees.
